Education
The goal of the Education Program for the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Washington is to distribute the packet "Coming to America" to all Washington State Elementary School Libraries within every school district. Geared to Fifth Grade Social Studies programs, it is full of study prints that illustrate the voyage to the New World and how the Pilgrims lived during their first years at Plymouth Colony. Further information may be viewed on the General Mayflower Society website "Coming to America".
A study guide prepared by Duane A. Cline for use by teachers, students, and anyone interested in learning more about the Pilgrims and their Pokanoket friends of the Wampanoag Nation is available at Pilgrims & Plymouth Colony: 1620.
Dr. Patricia Moseley Stanford, Past General Mayflower Society Historian, has written a number of articles for young children, about the Mayflower Passengers adventures during the passage and afterwards. These may be found at Mayflower Articles for Children
If you are interested in obtaining this educational packet for your school, please contact the Washington Mayflower Education Chairman.
